The Violence In Dragonball

Hey guys have you ever noticed that sometimes the anime will be more violent than the manga and sometimes the manga will be more violent than the anime!?

For example...

Frieza 2nd form stabbing Krillin is MUCH more violent and bloodier in the anime than in the manga

Frieza getting cut in half by the disk is more bloodier than in the manga

Spopovitch blowing up in the anime is way less violent, in the manga it actually shows pieces of his body flying through the air

Soooo I dont understand, does someone have a legitimate idea as to why this happens?

Peoples first thought would be usually something like "Oh the anime has to be less violent because moving images just make it that much more disturbing" well that doesnt make sense since some things ARE MORE VIOLENT and bloodier in the anime than in the manga

So I just dont understand, my second guess would be just simply different animators having different ideas on the amounts of blood to be shown but it doesnt make sense, wouldnt the animation director try and in-force and tell them to add blood where it needs to be?

A good example is how Tien getting his arm punched off is so non-bloody in the anime, well you could say because its too violent but in reality its not! just look at how bloody it was when Krillin got stabbed by frieza, or how bloody it was when Goku got tortured by Piccolo in the ending of Dragonball! \There is just no excuse, so does anyone know the reasons for this?

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

The manga is pretty brutal too. After Freeza is bisected by his own attack, intestines and gore are pouring out. I don't know what the intended audience was when Toriyama began Dragonball, but, it clearly shifted over time. The profanity, nudity and goriness of Dragonball got toned down a lot in Z, but, even Z had a few nasty, bloody moments. Probably because Toriyama realized young kids loved his work and wanted to remove some of the unnecessary vulgarity.

I think the difference is that between blood and gore (going off memory, can't remember much of the anime anymore). The anime seemed to have a lot of blood and things in it, but the manga got much more 'gorier' with things like body parts, and holes blown through people. I'm also pretty sure Gero even squeezed a guys head off.

Vegeta gets always beaten horribly though. That Poor Warrior.

That kick of 18 or that toying moments with Kid Buu.

I always saw manga violence much more realistic, therefore, it is considered more violent (to me, at least).
For example, in the manga a hole in a stomach won't be just a cylindrical, plain hole (like it would in the anime).
But, you will be able to tell more little details and messed up parts. In other words, much more realistic.

It's probably because the idea of violence and gore is just seen different in the Japanese viewpoint with its intended audience than it is in the West, and the fact that these audiences and aspects can change. There are many so called "Shounen" mangas that have a ton of blood and gore. I mean look at Fist of the Norht Star. You'd think that was Seinen material up with Berserk, and yet it was a considered a Shounen manga.

Likewise look at Trigun Maximum. Few select scenes a side, you'd never realize it was a Seinen serialization.

There's also the point that Shounen manga doesn't mean its directed at little kids, its often directed at young teens, people 15, 16, 17 and 18. The idea of gore and blood really isn't all that surprising in this regard. And as I said before, the western viewpoint on these things differ quite substantially from the Japanese viewpoint.

When your countries customs include eating still living octopuses and you tell bedtime stories that include vampires that have eyeballs in place of their bungholes, not much phases youngsters anymore.

You wernt listening to my question!

IN THE MANGA when Frieza gets chopped by his own disk there is LESS BLOOD, there is no intestines showing

IN THE ANIME when Frieza gets chopped its way more violent, not in the sense of guts and s*** but there is clearly a larger amount of blood that was animated

So what im trying to say is that sometimes the Anime is more violent than the manga and sometimes the manga is more violent than the anime! whats with that

I'm pretty sure Freeza's guts were showing in the manga. That's something that captured my attention rather quickly

What? No guts? There was so much guts the Godhand had to be called in. You could see it just trailing out of Freeza's bisected body, just waiting to slip out at any moment, surprised it didn't.
